The church of St. George is one of the oldest churches of Azogires. Azogires is located in Paleochora Chania Crete Greece. Roomers say that the church used to be a dimartiri. Meaning that it had two names.Some locals say it was St.George and St.Katherine.And others that it was St.George and St. Nikolas. But it probably was St. George and St. Katherine. It used to be a ruin, but it was remodeled back in the 1960s. With the help of the locals ,by giving donations. My grandfather had told me he remembered frescoes on the walls and he also recalled locals telling him about the byzantine cemetery that the church once had. And the stories of a man who dreamed to go digging for a grave with gold of which he found. But instead of gold the grave was full of charcoal because he mentioned about the dream to his wife before looking for it.According to local tradition when you see a dream like that you do not speak about it ,until you find the gold. Many others found graves around. You can still view some clay barrels below the church. Which were used as graves in the ancient days. After the road came thru they were uncovered,and are still viewable today. St.George is celebrated every year on St.Georges day ,you to are welcomed to join this celabration .
